Choquequirao Trek 4D/3N
The Choquequirao Trek 4D/3N is a challenging hike to the Inca citadel of Choquequirao, located in the Cusco Region. Over four days, you’ll explore the stunning Apurímac Canyon, crossing diverse Andean and tropical landscapes. Perfect for adventure seekers looking for history, breathtaking scenery, and an authentic experience far from the crowds of Machu Picchu.
Day 1: Cusco Capuliyoc Playa Rosalina Santa Rosa Baja
Early morning departure from Cusco by transport to Capuliyoc, a journey of approximately four to five hours. From there, the trek begins with stunning views of the Apurímac canyon. The first section is a steep descent to Playa Rosalina, crossing the river, followed by a challenging ascent to Santa Rosa Baja, where the camp is set up. Hiking time is about six to seven hours with a distance of roughly fourteen kilometers. This is a physically demanding day due to the heat and steep terrain.
Day 2: Santa Rosa Marampata Choquequirao
After breakfast, the trek continues with a steep ascent to Marampata, one of the most demanding sections. From there, the trail continues to the archaeological complex. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the plazas, temples, terraces, and the famous llama-shaped stone terraces. Hiking time is six to seven hours, covering approximately twelve kilometers. The sunset offers spectacular mountain views.
Day 3: Choquequirao Marampata Playa Rosalina
Enjoy the sunrise at the archaeological site before starting the return journey. The trek begins with a descent to Marampata and continues down to Playa Rosalina or Chiquisca for the camp. This is a demanding day due to the long downhill stretch and takes around six to seven hours of hiking.
Day 4: Playa Rosalina Capuliyoc Cusco
The final day involves the challenging ascent back to Capuliyoc. Once at the viewpoint, transport takes you back to Cusco, arriving in the afternoon or evening. Hiking time is approximately four to five hours, covering around eight kilometers.
